Honorable Mention Sixty-nine Last Century Peggy Eldridge-Love A three-quarter sized cello, a sized four shoe, and a long dark ponytail moving in slow tandem with the concerto. She was last seat, not gifted, just biding time, treading the waves till May. Graduating in May. He had thirteen months, standard in Vietnam, and this was eleven. Once home any old song would do but this was eleven and he still had two and first seat got pregnant just before the last concerto and someone who'd missed the cut filled the last chair and she became next to last and then May came and so did he. At least some of him. He was whole in limb but three-quarters in heart and maybe half in mind, but missing in action the next decade or two. She's the solo in this concerto, her head bobbing ever so slightly to the approaching notes of May. The cello is full-sized, the shoes sevens, the chair first. Thirteen months were standard in Vietnam but she's done life.
